Summer Culinary Schools

If you are one of those people who has a strong passion for cooking, perhaps a summer culinary session would provide you with enjoyment you desire. A cooking class will provide you with many new recipes and ideas to bring to your dinner table at home. Cooking classes can range from basic cooking skills to creating unique meals that incorporate culture and history. Attending a summer culinary school for education or enjoyment is something every person who is passionate about cooking should do.


France


Cook in France, located in St Amand de Coly, sends students abroad to learn in a relaxed atmosphere taught by an English-speaking chef. Hands-on cooking is offered with lessons in purchasing reasonably priced meats, sea foods and ingredients used in select meals. Two courses will be cooked daily from scratch including lunch, dinner or dessert. The recipes taught will be customized so they can be taken back home with you and prepared in your personal kitchen. Each student is given a "CookinFrance" apron to wear and take home with them as well as all the recipes taught during the session. Included in the cost of the class is five nights in a room either alone or paired with another student, a welcome meal on your first night, all ingredients used in preparing each course, wine with meals, breakfast and lunch everyday and dinner every night except Wednesday where they encourage you to eat out and experience fine dining. Vermont


Located 45 minutes from Burlington International airport, Kids Culinary Academy of Vermont offers overnight one- and two-week sessions for children ages 10 to 16 who are interested in cooking. Children will learn knife skills, cooking techniques, cake decorating techniques, menu planning along with decorating and presenting dishes. Dishes will be taught covering breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert with International cuisines included as well. Daily trips to local Vermont food distributors and factories such as Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory, Lake Champlaign Chocolate Factory, Green Mountain Cheese Farm and Souza's Brazilian Steakhouse. Florence, Italy


Study abroad in Florence, Italy, through the Study Abroad Italy (SAI) program. Since 1995, this program has been teaching students about the culture, history, food, geography and people of Italy with English speaking teachers. Summer sessions last 12 weeks and include enough courses to fulfill one semester of class credits. Included in the 12-week program are room and board in a historic center of Florence, field trips, assistance of a program coordinator, weekly cultural activities, cell phone use and airport transportation. Books, application fees, meals and personal expenses are not included in the program cost. Courses include chocolate artistry, Italian regional cuisines, tradition of Italian food, nutrition in the sports industry, food,culture and society in Italy, the Florence food and culture experience, meal planning and management in the Italian family, Tuscany and it's wines and wine appreciation. Classes are held in two-and-a-half-hour sessions Monday through Friday. Program costs vary based on how many credits are being taken with one course at three credits for $4100 and four courses at twelve credits for $13,000. Chicago


The Chopping Block, located in Chicago, Illinois, offers cooking classes monthly that feature a different type of cuisine in each class. Each class guides students through each step of preparation as well as what needs to be done before starting the meal. Classes include pasta workshops, seafood 101, steakhouse D.I.Y. and cold-weather beefs and stews. Meals include vegetable egg rolls with dipping sauce and a stir-fry during Chinatown night. Pasta night includes salad preparation, chicken fettuchini alfredo and fresh fruit with zabaglione. Classes run two to three hours throughout the day.
