The regional cuisines of New Orleans and Louisiana--Creole and Cajun cooking--are legendary staples of Southern cooking. Southern cooking is a popular sub-specialty in the culinary arts and cooking schools in New Orleans offer various cooking classes and culinary degrees taught by professional chefs.
New Orleans School of Cooking
New Orleans School of Cooking is in the French Quarter in a renovated molasses warehouse from the 1800s. In operation since 1980, the school's classes are taught by Creole/Cajun experts and local chefs. Coursework includes the basics as well as specialties of Louisiana cooking. Kevin Belton, Michael W. DeVidts, Anne Leonhard and Tom Nagelin bring their wide range of cooking fame, expertise and specialties to the school's students in a variety of classroom formats including open demonstration lunch classes, private demonstration classes and hands-on cooking classes. While not a full culinary degree program, the interactive and entertaining format of the instruction ensures students learn cook "Louisiana style."
