Homemade Office Gifts

The office can be a great place for gifting.

We all know how important it is to give gifts at work, whether it is for the holidays or a co-worker's birthday. Giving gifts creates a sense of camaraderie and friendship in the workplace and can make a big impression on those receiving the gift. However, in times when money is tight or when ideas are hard to come by, a homemade gift is always a winner.

Magnet Board

A magnet board will be used daily.

Making a magnet board is an easy and fun activity and it is something the recipient will use daily. Make a trip to a hardware store and buy a sheet of steel (1/16 inch or lighter). Have the store associate cut it down to an acceptable size. Bring it home and clean it with a degreaser, Dry the steel then prime it, paint it, let it dry and you are ready to wrap it up for gifting. Do not forget to provide matching magnets.

Networking Box

A networking box is an essential gift for most office employees.

We all have some sort of container holding our important contact lists. Make a simple, decorative box and give it to co-workers. Buy an unfinished wooden jewelry box with a lid and clasp. Sand it and paint it. Add texture or paint the recipient's name for decoration. Let it dry and fill it with t3-inch-by-5-inch cards.

Calendar

Making a crafty calendar is fun and makes a great gift.

Another thing that is handy to have around the office is a calendar for referencing and planning. Making a custom calendar is a great gift idea. Either buy a plain calendar and decorate it with scrapbooking supplies and a few photos or find a website where you can customize several calendars at once and have them printed and mailed to you for distribution.

Essentials Basket

Making a custom gift basket is a welcome gift for any recipient.

Choose a basket that your co-worker would like to have. Fill it with things that she likes, such as coffee or hot cocoa mix,her favorite candy, specialty stationary, gift card, gum or mints. Add in some essential items such as a needle and thread, travel-size detergent for those pesky lunch accidents, dental floss or toothpicks, a nail file, wet wipes and lotion. Wrap it up nicely and deliver.
