Decorate Chocolate Brown Walls

Decorating chocolate brown walls comes with hundreds of possibilities.

Chocolate brown has become a popular wall color. Because it is a neutral color, chocolate brown can be paired quite well with nearly any decor. In addition to its neutral quality, chocolate brown is also a tertiary color. That means the mixing of one primary color and one secondary color has to take place in order to create chocolate brown. To make brown, the colors red and green are most often mixed. For a deep chocolate brown, black is added. Decorating chocolate brown walls comes with hundreds of possibilities. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Spice up your chocolate brown walls with art. Visit your local art store for a few art prints that will convey the mood you wish you set in your chocolate brown room. For example, if you want to make the room young and trendy, find prints that contain bright colors like pink, teal and yellow. If you'd rather your room be sophisticated and elegant, consider purchasing prints with creams, reds, or greens. Keep in mind that practically any color will work in a chocolate brown room. Pick up some frames and mat paper as well to set off your prints. Most art spots will do custom framing in the store for a small price. Choose white or cream colored matting to make the prints stand out against the chocolate brown walls.

2. Be creative and make your own wall art. For about the same price that you would pay for prints, framing and matting you could buy painting supplies and create your own art. Purchase a piece of canvas with a wooden backing. Purchase a pack of acrylic paints (just the primary colors will do), a paint brush and a paint tray. Spread a drop cloth out on the floor or table at home, and get busy! Look through magazines or search online for inspiration. Don't be afraid to mix colors and add several layers of paint to achieve your desired look.

3. Add candles and wall sconces for additional light. Chocolate brown walls have the tendency to suck light from a room. In some situations this is a good thing (i.e. home theaters), but most of the time light is a necessity. Hang wall sconces with candle holders in a decorative pattern on the wall. Light the candles when extra light is needed.

4. Add crown molding around the top edges of your walls where the wall meets the ceiling. Invest in intricate corner pieces at your local home improvement store for a more decorative look. Add window and door casings to make your gateways to the outdoors pop. Include baseboards where the walls meet the flooring for a crisp, clean look. Consider adding chair rails around the walls to break up consistency. Use finishing nails and a hammer to add one or more of these design elements to your chocolate brown room.
