Mr. Coffee made a stackable tray food dehydrator that is used for drying fruits, vegetables and other foods. If you have one of these dehydrators you can use it to turn fresh produce into delicious and healthy dried snacks. The dehydrator has five circular trays that stack, one on top of another. It is advised to keep all the trays in the appliance when dehydrating, even if all the trays are not being used. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Wash all of the trays in warm soapy water, rinse well and dry before using. The fruit roll tray that comes with the machine should not be put in the dishwasher, yet the other trays can be washed on the top rack of the dishwasher. The fruit tray should be inserted on top of the other trays and under the lid while the machine is in use.
2. Notice you can not adjust the temperature. Unlike other food dehydrators, there is only an on and off switch, and no way to adjust the temperature. Because of this, the temperature may not be high enough to dehydrate meat, according to the current food safety guidelines from the United States Department of Agriculture. See link in Resources.
3. Cut the produce in uniform pieces, and lay on the trays. Do not allow the edges to overlap. Cutting ¼ inch thick is recommended by the manufacturer.
4. Stack the racks with the food, top with the fruit roll tray and place the lid on the top. Turn the food dehydrator on and dehydrate until the produce is the desired dryness. Drying time will vary depending on the food being dehydrated. Apples can take from 4 to 15 hours, and bananas can take from 8 to 36 hours.
5. Rotate the trays if the food seems to be dehydrating unevenly.
