Where To Study Culinary Arts In Maryland

Culinary arts program prepare students to make food in kitchens.


Culinary arts programs teach students prepare and cook various types of foods. Graduates of culinary arts programs are prepared to work as chefs in restaurants and other food establishments. In addition to taking courses, students are also given opportunities to intern in restaurants throughout the state of Maryland and learn under the supervision of a professional chef.


L'Academie de Cuisine


Located in Gathersburg, L'Academie de Cuisine was established in 1976 and offers two culinary arts programs. While one program prepares students for careers in culinary and pastry arts, the other is for individuals who want to improve their culinary abilities to cook for friends and families. The school is approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission and accredited through the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET). The professional culinary program is conducted in three phases, which includes classroom study and kitchen basics, advanced kitchen training and an externship.


Allegany College of Maryland


The Allegany College of Maryland is located in Cumberland, and the Division of Hospitality and Culinary Arts prepares students to work in the culinary arts field. In addition to academic coursework, the program offers students an opportunity to gain experience in a college-owned restaurant. Courses cover topics in cooking, baking, cost control, purchasing, food management and food merchandise. Graduates of the program are eligible for certification through the American Culinary Federation Educational Institute (ACFEI).


Fredrick Community College


The Culinary Arts & Hospitality Institute at Frederick Community College prepares students to work in commercial restaurants by helping them develop fundamental cooking skills. The college is located in Frederick, and all courses at the college are compliant with the American Culinary Federation Foundation (ACFF). The program is a member of several organizations, including the American Culinary Federation and National Restaurant Association. The curriculum includes courses in food preparation, baking, sanitation, food purchasing, and catering and event management.


Baltimore International College


Baltimore International College (BIC) offers a culinary arts program at the bachelor's degree level. Program tracks include professional cooking, professional cooking and baking, and baking and pastry. According to BIC, this is one of four programs in the U.S. that offer a four-year culinary arts degree. The program prepares students to manage a commercial kitchen by providing students with the necessary culinary, leadership and management skills. Courses combine culinary arts courses with business and management courses.
