Culinary Colleges

The United States is home to a variety of culinary colleges.


The word "culinary" is defined as being associated either with cookery or with the kitchen. As a result, it is important for aspiring chefs and cooks to be well-versed in the culinary arts. The culinary arts are an applied art discipline that is centered around the preparation of meals. Many culinary colleges are available across the United States.


Mississippi University for Women


The Mississippi University for Women is a state school that, despite its name, has been accepting male students since the early 1980s. The Mississippi University for Women is in Columbus, Mississippi, and was established in 1884. The university is home to a Culinary Arts Institute, which offers bachelor's degrees. The program is focused on classic cooking styles, and students are able to minor in subjects such as food art, food journalism and nutrition wellness. The choices in courses include world cuisines, food styling, meat processing and the science of food.


Johnson & Wales University


Johnson & Wales University is an independent institution that is situated in Providence, Rhode Island. Johnson & Wales University has been in operation since 1914. The university's culinary arts college is focused on hands-on education in the culinary field, with both associate's and bachelor's degrees in the field. The degree types include food service entrepreneurship, pastry arts, culinary nutrition and baking. Concentrations in beverage service management, wellness and sommelier (wine stewards) also are available.


Indiana University of Pennsylvania


Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a state institution that is located in Indiana, Pennsylvania. Indiana University of Pennsylvania was opened in 1875. The school's extensive culinary arts academy offers bachelor's degree programs in the culinary arts, which aim to assist individuals for careers as chefs, food critics, caterers and restaurant owners. Some of the program's different aspects include pastry arts, baking, menu design, kitchen layout, world cuisines and food purchasing.


Boston University


Boston University is an independent research institution that is in Boston, Massachusetts. Boston University was founded in 1839. The university's lifelong educational department for wine and food offers certification programs in the culinary arts. The main goal of the program is to introduce individuals to the world of gastronomy by providing training in essential contemporary and classic cooking styles. Apart from culinary arts certification, a gastronomy master's degree program also is available.
