Healthy Snacks For Kids On The Go

Make on-the-go snacks packed with nutrients for kids on the go.

Kids seem to live for snack time, so provide them with healthy options that they can grab on the go. Snacks provide kids needed energy to stay full and focused. Extra quality time is had by making some of these snacks at home with your kids. These quick and easy snack ideas are a staple for the busy family. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Crackers and Cheese

A healthy snack alternative to potato chips are crackers, especially those made from whole grains. Crackers and low-fat cheese can easily be divided into individual snack-sized bags for tossing into lunch boxes and backpacks.

Fruits and Veggies

For healthy snacks on the run, fresh fruits and vegetables can't be beat. Orange and apple slices, bite-size broccoli, cauliflower and carrots can be mixed together and stored in handy snack-sized baggies. For extra protein, peanut butter in a small paper cup can be used for dipping the apple ends into.

Green or purple grapes, drained and sliced peaches or pears and bananas are also mess-free, healthy snacks for the always-on-the-go family.

Trail Mix

This is a new spin on the old traditional snack mix. The following ingredients can be measured out into 1/2 cup or 1 cup measures of each. Multigrain Cheerios, oat bran or plain mini-pretzels, raisins, goldfish crackers, milk chocolate chips and peanuts are the on-hand ingredients required for this trail mix. After mixing all the ingredients into one large ziploc bag, measure out smaller, 1/2-cup servings that can be stored easily, allowing individual servings to be placed in the glove box, purse or sports bag.

Dry Cereal

For the toddler age, snack-sized baggies of cereal is always a convenient idea. Cheerios is an ideal "finger food" for the young ones. And for an even healthier option, Cheerios are now in multigrain, boosting the fiber content. Rice Krispies is another cereal that is good for snacking on. This is a welcome addition to any diaper bag, handbag or car console. These snacks can be left for various travel days, as they require no refrigeration and have a longer shelf life.
