Purify Used Motor Oil

Purify Used Motor Oil

Purifying used motor oil can be a great way for economically minded consumers to reduce the costs of vehicle maintenance. In addition to its financial benefits, reusing motor oil contributes to maintaining a clean environment by reducing the amount of discarded pollutants. In one innovative model, it is possible to create your own bypass filtration system with common household items such as a roll of toilet paper and a few cylindrical containers.

Instructions

1. Create a hole in the bottom of an open cylindrical container that will hold a roll of toilet paper in a snug position. The hole should be large enough for the filtered oil to flow through into a larger container placed below it.

2. Place a roll of toilet paper in the cylindrical container. Choose a type of toilet paper that is very dense and tightly wound. Plug the hole created by the cardboard tube in the center of the roll to prevent oil from seeping into this area.

3. As an optional precaution, place a metal screen under the cylindrical container to prevent any broken-down remnants of paper from entering the filtered oil container.

4. Place the apparatus on top of a second container with an opening not larger than the cylindrical container. This container will receive the filtered oil as it flows through the apparatus.

5. Pour oil slowly through the filter. It will take several minutes for the oil to pass through the toilet paper. Be careful not to overfill the container by pouring quickly.

6. Remove the apparatus from the bottom container after all of the oil has filtered through. The oil remaining in the bottom container is clean and ready for use.
