George Foreman Grill Work

The Inventor

In 1994, former world boxing champion George Foreman single-handedly turned around the fortunes of the shop-at-home channel QVC. Foreman presented a cooking device that seemingly drained the fat out of meat while preserving the flavor. As the story goes, Foreman took a bite of a burger cooked on this device right after a close-up showing the juicy meat. Only seconds later the phones at QVC lit up from everyone wanting George Foreman's Lean Mean Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine. To date, the grill has sold over 100 million units. This article will explain how the George Foreman Grill works.

How The Foreman Grill Works

The Foreman Grill works by acting much like a waffle iron. It can fit on most kitchen surfaces. There are two cooking surfaces on the Foreman Grill: the top and the bottom. Each side is electrically powered to produce heat. The grill's surface is made of a non-stick material that has alternating raised cooking elements to create channels. You would put the food in between the surfaces and close the top surface on it much like a clam shell.

When the grill is turned on, it slowly heats up on both surfaces. As they cook the meat, the fat begins to ooze out of it into the channels. The channels drain the fat down to the bottom of the grill that has a small opening. Ideally you would put a grease catcher at the bottom of the Foreman Grill to prevent a mess.

Variations Of The Grill

That was a description of one of the first Foreman grills. It has developed considerably since then. One popular variation is the George Foreman 360 Grill that not only grills but bakes on five different removable surfaces. There are also George Foreman grills that stand up just like a traditional charcoal grill. George Foreman also has a Lean Mean Fryer that spins up to 55% of the cooking oil and fat off of your fried meat. The common factor in all of the Foreman products seems to be getting rid of unnecessary fat but keeping in the flavor. I guess you can trust a healthy cooking product from a man who was a boxing world champion at age 47.
