Thanksgiving File Folder Games

Thanksgiving games are educational and fun.

File folder games help young students to practice important concepts such as matching, sorting, adding and reading. When it's close to Thanksgiving time, you can create Thanksgiving file folder games that include images of turkeys, pilgrims, Thanksgiving food or other autumn themes.

Pattern Matching

A worksheet shows Thanksgiving themed items in a particular pattern. For example, the pattern may show two pumpkin pies, two apples, two pumpkin pies and the student must then determine that two apples go next. The student can start with easy patterns, then move on to more complex ones.

Turkey Feather Counting

Students must sort numbered turkey feathers onto the turkey in the correct order. Alternatively, there can be two turkeys and the student must put all the even numbered feathers on one turkey and the odd numbered feathers on the other.

Food Sorting

Students must sort several pictures of food that might be on the Thanksgiving table--pumpkins, apples, turkey, stuffing, rolls, green beans--into the correct food group.

Turkey Filled Word Making

Students use the letters printed on the turkeys' bellies to form words. They can earn bonus points by making words related to Thanksgiving.

Turkey Run

This game consists of a board game using squares and game pieces that are turkeys. At the start of the game is the farmer and the goal is an open gate. Students are turkeys who have to try to escape the farmer by rolling the dice.

Pilgrim and Turkey Shape Matching

Students must match the shape printed on a pilgrim to the shape printed on a turkey. Shape combinations can make this game more challenging.
