Cook with the Iron Chef


Americans who love cooking increasingly want an exciting cooking experience, and what better way to learn than at the side of some of the world’s best chefs? Many teach cooking courses, some in exciting locations, and others will even teach you cook in your own kitchen–for a price. Add this to my Recipe Box.


Instructions


1. Join the 7 to 10 lucky guests of award-winning cookbook author Deborah Krasner, who hosts five-day cooking classes in both Italy and Vermont. In both cases, Krasner spends five days cooking with you, and guests will live on an olive oil estate in Sicily or Tuscany, or in a luxury barn in Vermont, making Italian food. Each of the two homes is surrounded by gardens and they both have large kitchens designed for multiple cooks. There are five bedrooms in each location. In Italy, you'll see ancient sights, sip coffee in the piazza, and attend local food festivals. In Vermont, you'll visit a farmer's market, artisan cheese shops, bee-keepers, and chocolate makers. The Vermont package costs $1,325 for 3 days or $2,650 for days, and the Italy package costs $3,500 for 6 days. Includes on-site lodging, meals, planned activities and ground transportation.


2. Stay in an Italian villa and spend three days cooking with some of Italy's best-known chefs -- Attilio Di Fabrizio (Executive Chef at the Villa San Michele), Domenico di Raffaele (Chef of the Hotel Caruso in Ravello)and Renato Piccolotto (Chef of the Hotel Cipriani in Venice). You'll stay at the Hotel Villa San Michele in picturesque Florence, and after a cocktail reception and dinner the first night, you'll spend your second day preparing Tuscan pasta dishes with Chef Di Fabrizio. On your third day, you'll make Mediterranean pasta dishes with Chef Di Raffaele, and on your last day, you'll learn prepare four Venetian dishes with Chef Piccolotto. The rates are about $2,700 for a superior room, and includes your hotel stay, all classes and prepared foods.


3. Stay in New York, New York ,and enroll in a one-of-a-kind culinary experience called The New York Culinary Experience. This two-day event is held at the French Culinary Institute. You will be able to get your hands dirty in the Institute's kitchens with Dan Barber of Blue Hill and Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Ron Ben-Israel of Ron Ben-Israel Cakes, Terrance Brennan of Picholine and Artisanal, pastry chef Karen DeMasco, Anita Lo of Annisa and Bar Q, "Iron Chef" Masaharu Morimoto, and Jim Lahey of Sullivan Street Bakery. Tickets are $1,395 per person and include admission both days, classes, breakfast, lunch, Champagne toast and wine reception.


4. Cook in a restaurant kitchen with Chef Roberto Donna, owner of several well-known Washington, D.C, restaurants, including Galileo, Laboratorio and Osteria. Chef Donna holds a number of special hands-on cooking classes for small groups on weekday evenings and weekend mornings. Each class is limited to 13 people and they fill up quickly, so check the schedule on Donna's website. Each class has a different theme, including famous Italian sauces, bruschetta, chicken dishes and more. Classes range from $100 to $140 per person.
