Dr Oz Raw Food Diet

Dr. Oz has appeared on television, co-authored popular diet and healthy living books and most recently has been seen on Oprah toting the benefits of a raw food diet, including weight loss, stress reduction and longer life. The experiments introduced by Dr. Oz leave little doubt as to why incorporating some form of raw food into your overall health plan may be a good idea.

Fruit and Vegetables

In his experiment nine volunteers with high blood pressure went to an England zoo and agreed to consume a diet identical to what the apes were fed. Each subject had to eat 11 pounds of raw fruits, nuts and vegetables every day. Within the 11 pounds were nuts, broccoli, blueberries, cauliflower and other very colorful fruits and vegetables.

After just twelve days, the subjects blood pressure, weight and cholesterol dipped impressively. The volunteers lost and average of 10 pounds each. Blood pressure was dramatically reduced by 10% and their cholesterol sunk about 25%. Overal, each lost approx. 2.5 inches off their waists.

To replicate their diet make sure to consume a diet full of raw fruits and vegetables. These items are high in vitamin-rich in nutrients and make the body feel satisfied. This satisfaction signals to the brain that you're full and no longer crave unhealthy foods.

Fiber

According to Dr. Oz., fiber is essential to a healthy diet because high fiber consumption helps food move through the body faster. This quick transit time moves toxins out of the body before they are able to be absorbed, helping to prevent several types of cancer.

Lower cholesterol also is a result of a high-fiber diet. Cholesterol is formed when bile gets absorbed through your bowels. Fiber helps pulls the bile out of the system; as a result, your cholesterol drops. High-fiber foods include whole grains, fruits, nuts and seeds.

Omega-3 Acids

Today's world is stressful, and with stress come increased cortisol levels. Cortisol is a hormone that serves as a measure of stress amounts. Omega-3 acids, which can be found in fish, are thought to reverse the signs of stress and have a calming effect.

A diet that includes raw and cooked fish three to four times a week should help curb the damage done by your stress hormones. Mackerel, sardines, haddock, kippers, salmon and tuna are high in this vital nutrient. Memory also has been shown to benefit as a result of omega-3 consumption.
