Eat Healthy At Home & Save Money

Grocery stores have inexpensive healthy foods right next to unhealthy temptations.

You can eat healthy at home and save money by planning ahead when you shop and cook. A well-organized home kitchen has all the tools you need to produce inexpensive and healthy meals at home. Balanced meals planned and portioned in advance supply sufficient fulfillment and nutrition to reduce the likelihood of binge eating. A body fueled with naturally nutritious foods has sustained energy throughout the day. Eat more healthy foods at home that lower the food budget and keep you feeling great.

Instructions

1. Organize and refine the cold and dry food storage in the home kitchen. Throw away or donate all junk food and any items past their expiration. Foods high in salt, fat and sugar, especially those eaten without the need to be cooked or prepared, are junk food, which must be completely eliminated as a food option in the home.

2. Make an inventory list of all the healthy food items that remain in the refrigerator, freezer, pantry and spice rack. Add quantity and description details to the inventory list.

3. Write detailed ingredients lists for seven or more healthy meal ideas. Search for inexpensive and healthy recipes online. Choose a few recipes that transform easily into secondary meals, such as a roast chicken that can be picked clean and made into a soup or casserole.

4. Mark off the items from the recipe ingredients list that you have insufficient quantity in the home inventory. Change any high salt, sugar or fat items on the ingredients list for healthier substitutes wherever possible. Search for healthier food substitutions online.

5. Search mailers from grocery stores in the area for sales and coupons for healthy ingredients. Some supermarkets require their customers to use a loyalty card to receive all the available discounts.

6. Go to the farmer's market or grocery stores with the revised and edited ingredients list and home inventory list. Look for specials and discounts on healthy foods you can incorporate into the recipes. Visit more than one store to get all the items you need at the best possible prices.

7. Prepare meals in advance and portion them into healthy servings using sealing plastic food storage containers. Label the containers with the name of the dish and the date it was made using a strip of masking tape and a permanent marker. Store the portioned meal in the refrigerator for up to a week or the freezer for up to a month.
