Florida SNAP in Michigan
Your Florida-issued food stamp card will work in Michigan, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, or USDA. The food stamp card -- called an Electronic Benefit Transfer, or EBT, card -- is just like a bank or credit card, making it easy to use at the register of any store that accepts food stamps. Look for the "Quest" logo in the storefront window, or go online to find Michigan grocery stores near you that accept the card.
Across the Country
You can use your Florida food stamp card anywhere in the country or U.S. territories, with few exceptions, according to the USDA. Wherever you travel, check the area for supermarkets that accept the EBT card by going online or looking for the "Quest" sign in the window.
U.S. Territories
As of the date of publication, Puerto Rico, American Samoa and the Northern Marianas Islands are the only U.S. territories in which your Florida food stamp card won't work, according to the USDA. You won't be able to use an EBT card from any region in these areas because the food stamp program in these locations work on a cash or coupon basis and are funded by block grants by the federal government.
Moving
Are you moving to Michigan from Florida? Your food stamp card will work, but if you plan to live in Michigan you must apply for benefits in that state. Let your Florida caseworker know you're leaving and apply for benefits in Michigan as soon as possible to avoid a lag in your benefits. It's illegal to receive food stamps from two different states in the same month unless you are escaping an abusive situation, according to the California Guide to the Food Stamp Program.
