Merril's Roxy
Located at the corner of College Street and Winooski Avenue in the heart of downtown Burlington, Merril's Roxy is the place for any movie buff downtown. With general admission for matinees at $6.50 and evening rates of $9, as of January 2011, it is one of the city's cheapest options. The theater has four screens showing some of the latest blockbuster Hollywood films and select independent films. If you're driving, look elsewhere as there is no free parking in the area.
Essex Cinemas
Located in the Essex Outlet mall, this is the only theater in Vermont that offers 3D movies. The theater also boasts 10 digital screens and state-of-the-art surround sound. In January 2011, it opened a new VIP theater room featuring an extra-large screen, wide seats, beer, wine and special food choices. As of 2011, general admission is $7 for a matinee and $8.75 for evening shows; 3D and VIP rates are higher.
Palace 9
Located in South Burlington, this theater plays a diverse selection of the latest Hollywood blockbusters. Palace 9 has plenty of free parking, large screens and stadium seating. You can also bring children on Thursdays for "Mom's Matinees," featuring movies at a lower volume and with dimmed lights. General admission is $7 for matinees and $9 for evening shows, as of 2011.
Majestic 10
Located in Williston, eight miles outside of Vermont, Majestic 10 boasts 10 huge screens, stadium seating, digital surround sound and Dolby 3D theaters. The Majestic draws late-night movie buffs with its midnight premieres of select blockbuster features. There's also plenty of free parking and nearby shops. The admission price for matinees is $7.25 and $9 for evening shows, as of January 2011.
